Upper Limb Injuries and Conditions We Treat at Our Physical Therapy Clinic In Windsor

At Sisu Therapies, our hand therapists are able to treat a wide variety of upper limb injuries and conditions, ranging from the hands, elbows, and shoulders. Listed below are a few of the most common conditions we treat, as well as an overview of what the treatment entails.

Physical Therapy for Carpal Tunnel

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition of the upper extremity, and is known as the most common nerve compression to occur in the body. Approximately 3% of the population is affected by this syndrome, and its symptoms can widely affect a person’s daily life. Here are a few of the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome:

  • Numbness
  • Tingling
  • Weakness or pain in the thumb, index, and/or middle fingers of the hand

Did you know carpal tunnel syndrome is one of the most common causes of work time lost in the United States? That’s why it’s so important to receive an accurate diagnosis and receive physical therapy for carpal tunnel as soon as you notice symptoms. We treat carpal tunnel syndrome in a variety of ways depending on the patient, including the use of an orthosis to support your wrist, nerve or tendon gliding, and more. Request an appointment today to receive a customized plan to treat your carpal tunnel syndrome effectively.

Overhead Sports Injuries

From SLAP tears to shoulder instability, rotator cuff injuries, and more, we treat a variety of these overhead sports injuries. If you notice that you don’t have as much power as usual when throwing a baseball, hitting a volleyball, or returning a serve in tennis, that is a sign that you might be experiencing an overhead sports injury. We recommend requesting an appointment with our experts at Sisu Therapies to assess the injury and create a treatment plan that is personalized to you so you can get back to your active lifestyle, pain-free.

Tennis Elbow Physical Therapy

Lateral epicondylitis, more commonly known as tennis elbow, is when the muscles in the forearm that attach to the elbow become inflamed. When this occurs, patients typically experience minor tears in the tendon, causing discomfort and pain. So, what causes tennis elbow? Generally speaking, tennis elbow is caused by the overuse of the tendon that is affected. Common symptoms include the elbow aching or feeling a burning sensation outside of the elbow itself.

To treat tennis elbow, there is the option of over-the-counter pain medication, as well as tennis elbow physical therapy. This includes resting, icing, compressing, and elevating the affected elbow, as well as gentle exercises to strengthen the muscles surrounding the elbow. Here are a few common exercises that are completed during tennis elbow physical therapy:

  • Fist Clench
  • Dumbbell Supination
  • Wrist Extensions and Flexions

If you are in need of tennis elbow physical therapy, please contact our Sisu Therapies team today. We will create a treatment plan to help alleviate your pain and promote a healthier, more active lifestyle moving forward.
